Legislative Write-In Campaign:
You can help women around the world today by simply sending a letter to Senator Boxer.
Download, sign and mail. It's that simple! This letter states you would like Senator Boxer to
give priority to supporting the ratification by the USA to the UN Convention on the
Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW). The USA is one of
the FEW countries in the world not to have become a party to this important legal instrument
for advancing women's rights and it's time to take action!
Monthly Films:
The Zonta Club of Newport Harbor promotes and supports the Sisters of St. Joseph of
Orange Film Series. The films are typically shown on the first Friday of each month with the
topics relevant to current events relating to women's issues. The goal of the film viewings is
to raise awareness and encourage conversation about the dynamic, systemic and critical
needs of our world. To be added to our mailing list to receive monthly notices on the film
series please contact us.
Orphan Bracelets:

proceeds from these bracelets go directly to the Bothsheblo Villiage to provide food, shelter
and healthcare for HIV/AIDS orphans.

advocate for issues that matter most to you. They have information on ballot propositions,
current affairs, economics, education, employment, legislation, pay equality, marriage
equality, and more. Check them out at: http://www.canow.org/

the areas of: Education, Employment, any many more topics. Check them out today!
Stand Up Against Poverty:
The Zonta Club of Newport Harbor supports and promotes the annual Stand Up Against
Poverty event. 173,045,325 citizens gathered at over 3,000 events in more than 120
countries, demanding that their governments eradicate extreme poverty and achieve the
Millennium Development Goals. "Stand Up, Take Action, End Poverty Now!", has been
certified by Guinness World Records as the new world record and remains the largest
mobilization of human beings in recorded history.
Demin Day:
The Zonta Club of Newport Harbor supports and promotes the annual Demin Day in LA
event. In 1998, an Italian Supreme Court decision overturned a rape conviction because
the victim wore jeans, reasoning she must have helped her attacker remove them. People all
over the world were outraged. Wearing jeans on Demin Day has become an international
symbol of protest against erroneous and destructive attitudes about sexual assault. See
pictures from District 9 Zonta clubs participation in 2009 here.
